Creator of the SuperNURDs website, refiner of team branding, and 3 year SuperNURDs member, Tayler is now a mentor to the SuperNURDs, sharing his knowledge with the team. Known best for his various videos and graphics created for the SuperNURDs, Tayler redesigned the team with a new core. Almost all current graphics and videos were created, produced, filmed, and edited by Tayler. He is currently attending Cal State San Marcos studying to get a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. As former lead to the business and programming teams, he showed his outstanding workmanship. He expertly organized the work area by helping assign jobs, taking charge on projects, and leading others. During his three years on the team, he was Manager of Operations, Awards lead, Communications lead, Publicity/ Media lead, Business lead, Software lead, and Vice President. He is a programmer, graphic designer, photographer, and videographer. He now works at SDG&E as an IT Associate.

Mr. Jim Sykora

Mr. Sykora earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He spent many years at MTS Systems, Hewlett-Packard and D&K Engineering where he recently retired. He has held project lead positions on servo-hydraulic testing systems, prototype assembly machines and manufacturing line analysis and operations. He started mentoring the SuperNURDs 2 years ago in 2016. He “...believes in exposing students to many types of possible careers so that they can make informed choices.” He and his wife, Sharon (a retired educator) believe strongly in helping our youth in whatever capacities they can. Mr.Sykora once ran in a marathon and always tries his best to do good for the environment.

Mrs. Yun Lutgen

Mrs.Lutgen teaches Math II and Math III (S). She has been serving as Math Department Co-Chair at San Pasqual High School. She attended Rick’s College, now known as BYU-Idaho.   She received her Bachelor's in Mathematics and went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Cross-Cultural education from National University. She was named the 2016 EUHSD Teacher of the Year. Within the SuperNurds, Mrs.Lutgen is a mentor to the Business team. In addition to teaching full time and mentoring, she is a wife and mother to five children. She is also Co-founder of the North County Consortium.

Mr. Jaren Marler

Mr. Marler earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University.  He designed and built a high volume assembly line for the first color inkjet printer (PaintJet).  Later, he managed a team that developed the first one-inch print head.  This became the building block for HP Commercial Printing.  With this new technology, his team designed and built the first prototypes for the HP photo kiosk, large format vinyl printer, and high-speed web.  In 2012, he started a new company, called APS Engineering, which has since been aquired by Mark Andy inc. Followed by accepting the position as the CTO of Mark Andy Inc. and now is back with APS Engineering, President and Principal Engineer.  In 2015, Mr. Marler took on the role as lead mentor/head coach of the SuperNURDs.

Mr. Jeff Warren

Software Mentor

Mr. Warren received a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from Arizona State University (ASU).  During college, he worked at Honeywell, developing network applications.  Prior to graduating he started working at ASU on a high-resolution camera project for NASA’s Mars Observer Mission.  From there, he was one of the founding employees of Malin Space Science Systems that designed, built, and operated camera systems for many of NASA’s interplanetary missions.  Two of the most notable missions were the Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Pathfinder missions.  Highlights of his 12+ years of working on NASA missions include working on the Mars Global Surveyor Spacecraft on the launch pad at Kennedy Space Center just hours before launch and working in the mission control room at JPL for the Mars Pathfinder lander and rover mission.  From his work at NASA, he transitioned to developing new technologies for companies such as Motorola and Disney.  For the past 10 years, he has been working at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI).  GA-ASI manufactures the Predator, Reaper, and other unmanned vehicles (UAVs) for customers such as the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army.   Currently Mr. Warren’s role is the software manager responsible for the MQ- 9 Reaper program for the United States Air Force.  Mr. Warren is excited and honored to be a part of FIRST, investing in future technology leaders.

Mrs. Kelli Warren

Business/Pit Crew Mentor

Mrs. Warren attended Glendale Community College in Arizona for 1.5 years acquiring her general education classes. After marrying and moving to San Diego, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at Malin Space Science Services, where most of the cameras for the Mars missions were developed and operated. She had the privilege to be part of several missions, most notably the Mars Global Surveyor. She resigned her position to become a stay-at-home mom. Mrs. Warren has had opportunities to serve at Emmanuel Faith Community Church, where she coordinates large group events and teaches different classes, all to create and build relationships within the community. Mrs. Warren created her own small business, Kelli’s Creations. This word of mouth business creates fabric window treatments and simple upholstery projects. During her first year of mentoring, she helped with the sewing of capes for the team and construction of the bumpers for the robot. This year she has invested more to include help with the Business team and MESA Days. 

Mr. Mike Meziere

Mr. Meziere is an alumni of San Pasqual High and St. Mary’s Catholic School. He attended Palomar college for two years while majoring in Accounting. In college, he had a growing interest in machining and fabrication, which lead him to go to San Diego City College.  Before he created his own company, Meziere Enterprise, he worked at service stations with his Dad. He was introduced to the SuperNURD’s by his prior friendship with Mr.Lutgen. The SuperNURD’s helped create an FTC team at both Cathedral Catholic High and St. Mary’s Catholic School, where some of  his children have and are currently attending. Mr.Meziere is a husband and father to his eight children. He became an official Fabrication Mentor to the team in 2011.

Mrs. Kathleen Cordingley

Business Mentor

Mrs. Cordingley attended U.C. Davis for her undergraduate work and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business, cum laude from Madison University. She worked for 12 years at United Parcel Service (UPS) as a Supervisor/Corporate Trainer. She worked 5 years as a Project Manager/Corporate Trainer teaching cyber security for: San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), SoCal Gas and Sempra Energy. Today, she heads up training and development for North County Health Services (a non-profit healthcare provider) here in San Diego. In this occupation, she trains 800 hundred employees that serves 70,000 patients in North County. Mrs. C’s extensive background in training, professional development, fundraising and community outreach is a perfect fit for our team.  She mentors because she wants to make a positive difference in a young person’s life.  She believes every child is one inspiring adult away from greatness. "Sometimes all a student needs is to have someone believe that they can, and they will." She has two children who is are SN Alumni and one child on the team.

Mr. Ben Cordingley

Software Mentor

Taking apart computers since high school, Mr. Cordingley has been involved with coding and programming from an early age.  He was hired straight out of high school to work for Intel then poached over to a position at NEC Electronics.  Shortly thereafter he was recruited by WebTV as it was being acquired by Microsoft.  Transitioning over to Data Center Mgmt. with Microsoft led to a career move down south to San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E).  He has spent the last 12 years at SDG&E protecting our critical infrastructure in his various roles such as digital forensics, eDiscovery, Incident Response, and currently Network Operations.  He feels providing support and guidance to the students on the SuperNURDS is a rewarding way to give back to the future IT professionals.

Blake attended San Pasqual High School and joined the team in his Freshman year. After graduating he returned to help out the team. Aside from attending California State University San Marcos, Blake also works for our sponsor, Meziere Enterprises as a machine operator. When Blake is not helping the SuperNURDs or working at Meziere Enterprises, he builds pre-runner trucks.

At Cal State San Marcos, she is pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development with an emphasis in Biology and Physics with the goal of becoming a teacher. She volunteers at her church every week as the Youth Leader of the Kindergarten/1st grade classroom. She tutors weekly at the local middle school Del Dios.  And just founded her first Jr. FLL team, The Grease Monkeys at the nearby elementary school. LR Green.

Mr. Peck attended Notre Dame High School in Riverside, California, before going to University of California Riverside for his Bachelor's in mechanical engineering. Previously having worked for Laminated Shim, Co. and Naval Air Command (NAVAIR) for the US Navy, Peck currently works as a Aerospace Engineer for NAVAIR. Peck joined the team in the 2019 season, hoping to learn his own craft a little more through practice while teaching the students what he knows. Aside from the SuperNURDs, Peck also mentors another robotics team in San Diego.

An alumni of San Pasqual High School, Makenzie went on to attend the University of California San Diego and get her degree in structural engineering. Currently still a student, Makenzie began to mentor the SuperNURDs in the 2019 offseason, hoping to be a different type of mentor, bringing her knowledge and experience to the team.

Angela is an alumni of San Pasqual High School, and graduated in 2015. Angela attended Cal State San Marcos to receive a degree in Computer Science. Angela also mentored San Pasqual's all girl coding club called the Code Queens. In the summer of 2019 she was a software engineering intern at Hunter Industries where she learned about modern development practices and mob programming. She now works as a software developer at Motorola Solutions. Angela began to mentor in 2020 and is looking to lend a hand to the Software and Business teams.
